Keynote Speaker’s Biography
Antoine Derose was born and educated in Haiti. He emigrated and settled in Toronto Canada where he lives with his family since 1978. Antoine received his degree in social work as well as a Certificate in Anti-Racism and Race Relations at York University. Antoine Dérose works as a Bilingual Program Consultant, at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) since 2000. He coordinates CAMH representation on the French Language Health Services Planning Committee of the Toronto Region, and promotes the CAMH’s products and services, particularly in Afro-Caribbean and Francophone communities where culture and language can be barriers to accessing mental health support services. He serves on the Management Board of the Canadian Council of Education. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Centre francophone de Toronto. He also teaches at College Boreal, where he was a member of the board of directors from 2003 to 2007. He is vice-President of Pierspective Entraide Humanitaire, a charitable organization working in Haiti. Mr. Derose is a founding member of the Council of Caribbean Associations of Canada. Previously, he worked as program coordinator for the Change Your Future program for the Learning Partnership and as a project advisor at École secondaire Étienne Brulé and at Le Collège français. He also served as a Member, Franco-Ontarian Council of Education (CEFO). Previously he has been a Trustee with the French Language School Board, for a period of 5 years. He was also the Founding President of the Haitian Cultural Network of Toronto and the Haitian Association of Toronto. Mr. Dérose is committed to meeting the needs of Francophone Creole groups living in Toronto. The Groupe Professionel Haïtien de Toronto (GPHT) awarded its first “Community Excellence Award GPHT” to Antoine for demonstrated leadership in creating positive change and for supporting and encouraging others to become more involved in the community.
